Acute Sports Injuries

Muscle strains and ligament sprains are amongst the most common sports injuries often occurring as a result of impact or too much force applied to the structure.

History taking and orthopaedic assessment will allow the therapist to diagnose the damaged structure(s) and treat accordingly. Treatments may include soft tissue work, laser, mobilisations, acupuncture and ultrasound. This is always followed up with progressive exercise therapy from day one to support healing and repair. Supportive therapies such as kinesiotape or support taping may also be applied.

Overuse injuries

These often occur as a result of an imbalance of forces over a period of time or incorrect application of forces (incorrect technique during activity).

This is a fascinating area of therapy as critical examination of cause and effect is essential. This could be multifactorial ie incorrect shoe or muscle imbalance or balance (proprioception) to name a few. The therapist will use many years of experience and knowledge to gather all relevant information to try and unravel why the injury occurred and specifically why now.

A comprehensive treatment and support plan can then be applied.
